MIRI: The annual Miri Country Music Fest has been cancelled this year and will return in 2021, expecting to attract a wide variety of festival goers as organiser Place Borneo is planning to include a more diverse range of performers and festival line-up, whilst redesigning the way event goers will meet at the festival.

In line with Place Borneo’s Meet Differently campaign, event goers will enjoy the same fun annual festival that was created in 2014, with updated guidelines and festival layout as the organisers pledge to adhere to strict health and safety measures in compliance with the Sarawak government health department’s event guidelines.

‘We want to give Mirians an unforgettable country music festival to look forward to next year, whilst focussing on safety and health first, following the government’s advice. It will be a smaller scale event but will still have all the vibrant elements that make it memorable. We look forward to announcing the event dates soon,’ said MCMF founder and festival advisor Gracie Geikie.

‘My band and I had a wonderful time at MCMF 2019, we were delighted and surprised at how much the locals really enjoyed country and western music. We would love to come back to Miri for MCMF again!’ said Joe Sanders of The Johnny Cash Experience, a tribute band from Germany.

The 7 year old festival has been deemed the first international country and western music festival in Malaysia and the only one of its kind in South East Asia. MCMF has featured many local and international bands with different styles of music – from Australia, USA, Britain, Germany, Singapore, Indonesia, Czech Republic and European expats working in Asian region. MCMF supports both Malaysian and international, big and small, country music performers and gives them a platform to showcase and promote their music to a wider audience. MCMF also features music workshops, dance workshops and activities for both children and adults.
